The Training School is organised as a part of the Integrated Initiative of European Laser Research Infrastructures II - LASERLAB-EUROPE, which is in the second phase of its successful cooperation. The Training School is aimed at providing the information and involvement of potential users from the Baltic / Northern Europe region into the activities of this network. The scientific directions of the Training School will be focused on laser applications in spectroscopy, technology and medicine, as well as the networking and cooperation opportunities of scientists within EU. The prominent speakers of the plenary sessions include Prof. W. Demtroeder, Prof. R. Field (via Internet), Prof. S. Svanberg, Prof. K. Svanberg, Prof. J. SpÄ«gulis, Prof. V. Sirutkaitis, Prof. R. Gadonas, Dr. D. Chorvat. Young scientists will also have an opportunity to benefit from the 6th International Student Conference on Developments in Optics and Communications (DOC). The conference is open for attending when a participant is registered for Training School. If a participant would like to participate with a presentation, additional registration with DOC organizing committee is required. ScopeThe current Training School offers an innovative approach of training for prospective LASERLAB-EUROPE Consortium network users’. The main objectives of the Consortium are: - to form a competitive, inter-disciplinary network of European national laser laboratories; - to strengthen the European leading role in laser research through Joint Research Activities, pushing the laser concept into new directions and opening up new applications of key importance; - to engage in the Transnational Access Programme in a co-ordinated fashion for the benefit of the European research community, providing about 1100 days of access per year for European researchers. - to increase the European basis in laser research and applications by reaching out to neighboring scientific communities and by assisting the development of Laser Research Infrastructures on both the national and the European level. The Training School programme is aimed at establishing and enhancing cooperation among the laboratories of Baltic / Northern Europe in favour of true enhancement of knowledge levels and advancing the involvement of these laboratories in the LASERLAB-EUROPE network activities. The goal is attained by means of introducing information about LASERLAB-EUROPE opportunities, promoting the knowledge on preparation of the cooperation projects, prominent speakers and by suitable mobility plan. The concerted action is aimed at establishing a long-term, tightly knit collaboration, shared among the European Scientific institutions including the Baltic and Northern European young scientist community within the framework of the Consortium.
